As we finish the last few details before launching classes for the winter, we’re asking for your input to better shape the goals of our photography instruction. So, consider these questions for us, and send the answers to Don Mears Photography

1. What photography and/or Photoshop classes have you taken and where?

2. If anything, what could have made your experience with those classes better?

3. In your ideal class, what percentage would be spoken instruction vs. hands-on instruction?

4. Are days or evenings better for attending class?

5. What days are best for attending class?

6. What is your current profession? If in school, what is your major course of study?

First post, and a mission statement.

In early 2009, the first discussions began at 1623 West Broad Street about the potential and possibilities of an education project housed in that space. Hence, the foundations of the 1623 School were formed. Ansel, Peter, and I conceived of a learning environment focused on “doing”; that is to say a school based on the principles that practical learning requires practical training from educators who are working professionals. Less a lecture environment with fixed lessons than a working studio with goals and a variety of paths to reach them, each subject would be treated as part of the larger goal of making the resident student more competent in their creative endeavor, whether it’s a career or serious hobby.

We intend that the learning experience at 1623 School will not only leave you with a better understanding of your chosen discipline, but also something to show for it. We want to keep your hands and eyes as busy as your brains
